We've not really been doing much different. Our trimmer gave us some special white line balm to use on any areas where stones have got into their white lines and we've been using that fairly regularly.
The ground is rock-hard following no significant rain for three weeks now and the grass is coming through. Lottie is looking a little sore on her right fore again. Mainly on hard ground with little sharp stones on it. She looks ok in the field and in the sand school but we've decided to use boots if we play with her anywhere else.
I'm guessing this is to be expected at this time of year with the ground going so hard so quickly. I have also read quite a bit about how diet (new grass in particular) can make them 'footy'. To be honest, I'm not really clear on how this works or what you would do to manage this as the advice seems somewhat conflicting. The girls live on grass in the day, ad lib hay over night and have the smallest amount of chaff with their vits and minerals. The only thing we don't do, which I have heard advised, is soak their hay... it's frowned upon on our yard!
Lottie has chipped her left fore quite a lot, and although it looks a mess, it doesn't seem to be bothering her! Also a new mare joined the herd last weekend so there's been a fair bit of gadding about which might have exacerbated any 'footiness'!
The trimmer is due in two weeks so we'll just keep using the boots as needed in the meantime.
Or maybe just put shoes back on :-)
